Is it time to leave Facebook?

Facebook has gotten big.  Really big.  And in its quest for world domination, it has stepped on toes.  It has stepped on the toes of its users, stepped on the toes of its partners, and stepped on the toes of its supporters.   It has repeatedly made decisions ONLY in the interest of Facebook.

I’m a bit biased, because I am an Open Web supporter.  I believe in open vs. closed.  I think that working together we can do more than working apart.

I have been feeling this for a while now.  The moves that Facebook has increasingly been making aren’t in the best interest of the web, and they are not in the best interest of its users (who they have  A LOT of information on).   I have tweeted about it a few times, but mostly just been watching the growing backlash.

Last night I got the weekly Jason Calacanis newsletter. Sign up HERE . He has never been afraid to mince words, or pull punches, and he has put together a report on FB that should bother anyone who has given Facebook all of their information (like you).

The most scathing piece is from Gizmodo “The Top Ten Reasons You Should Leave Facebook”

One more:  How Facebook was Founded

So is it time?  I’m not sure, but I am almost there.

A History of Christian Haircuts

Throughout history, much has been made over theological and political discussions in the church.  Honestly, I haven’t paid a great deal of attention because I was on the outskirts,  but as many of you know – I am starting to move to the inside.  So I want to fit in.  This required an all out, detailed search of great preachers in history and how I could better mold myself to be the best I can be.  Here is what I found.

1980’s

This was the era of the republicans. Ronald Reagan.  Power Suits.  Conservatives were on a mission to restore substance and values.  It was also the era of big hair. And power ties.

Then came the 1990s.  Grunge.  Alladin.  Everything I do, I do it for you. The bodyguard.  The Macarena.  The 90s was all about change.  Breaking free from the Man.  It was like the happy, freewheeling 70s without the happy.   In churches however, there was not much fundamental hair changing happening.  This was disappointing to many in the church.

After that was the new millennium, and with it, new hair.  Joel Osteen, who does everything bigger and better, leads us off, hairwise:

He proved hair was not bound by the constraints of our forefathers.  God wants us to have large hair!

Honestly though, Joel is tough to compete with.  This caused some other evangelicals to give up the hair battle all together.  Here is Bishop T.D. Jakes powerfully making a statement and saying “I have more important things to do in the morning then my hair”

So, here we are today.  The question still remains, What is the best christian haircut?  Should it be missional? Attractional? (there isn’t much that can make me attractive, so if hair helps, I’m there).

Now we are talking…

This is the new face (hair) of what is NOW (This is Mark Driscoll and Jud Wilhite).  So this is new hipness.

Is this more missional? Or more attractional?
